Temple I, 2023

(performance-video)

Duration of the performance: 1 hour at 32°F

In ‘Temple I’, I balance 24 stones on my bare back. The weight of them pushing against me, while my body holds them gently. An impermanent balance. The rocks move with my breath; they become animate. They form a mass over my skin, like tectonic plates over the crust and mantle of the earth, shifting with each breath. The rocks, the land remain in a state of constant flux, to my body, the core. Each moment remains transient, ephemeral.
